FAQ

The Training

What is full-spectrum ancestrally rooted doula training?
Our training goes beyond conventional doula education by integrating a comprehensive education on the anatomy and physiology of birth, reproductive justice, and ancestral birth and ceremonial practices. We provide culturally affirming, evidence-based, and intuitive approaches to supporting families through all variations of birth—including hospital birth, out-of-hospital birth (home and birth center), loss, and postpartum care. You will walk away a Certified Full Spectrum Doula and Childbirth Educator.

Who is this training for?
This course is designed for aspiring and experienced doulas, birth workers, and anyone passionate about reclaiming birth as a sacred, autonomous experience and supporting families throughout the childbearing year. Whether you're new to birth work or deepening your practice, this training will give you the knowledge and confidence to serve your community effectively, reignite your passion for birth work, and do it sustainably.

What will I learn in this course?
You’ll gain a deep understanding of physiological birth, hormonal and neurological shifts in labor, variations of normal, emergency preparedness, postpartum care, lactation support, and sustainable business practices. We also address systemic barriers to safe birth and how to advocate for birthing families within the current maternal healthcare system. Additionally, you'll learn how to educate families on emergency care and provide non-clinical doula support in the event of a precipitous birth—whether that means a baby is born before the midwife arrives at a home birth or before the birthing person can get to the hospital.

Is this training only for those who want to work in out-of-hospital birth settings?
No! 98% of births in the U.S. still take place in a hospital and despite popular belief home births and birth center births do transfer from time to time. While we train globally, our mission is to address the statistics of our nation and the disparity for Black mothers and birthers. We train birth workers to support families in all birth environments, including hospitals, birth centers, and homes. We emphasize informed choice and bodily autonomy, equipping you to navigate and advocate within any setting.

Certification & Recognition

Will I be certified after completing this training?
Yes! Upon completion, you’ll receive a certificate as a Full-Spectrum Ancestral Doula. While certification is not required to practice as a doula, it can enhance your credibility and professional standing.

Is this certification recognized by hospitals or other organizations?
While our training is independent of medical institutions, your instructors are seasoned and highly respected in the birth community. Our focus is on preparing and equipping our doulas with the critical thinking and hands-on skills, cultural rooted and up to date evidence-based knowledge, and advocacy tools to prepare them to serve families, women, and birthing people in any setting.

Does this training meet the requirements for Medicaid reimbursement?
Medicaid coverage for doulas varies by state. We recommend checking your state’s requirements to see if additional steps are needed to qualify for reimbursement.

Is this training accredited?

Doula work is not and has never been, despite push for legislation, state or nationally regulated work. There is no licensing or accrediting body. You will be a Better Birth Worker C-FSD(Certified Full Spectrum Doula) and C-CBE if you certify through our Full Spectrum Doula & Childbirth Educator Training.
